Ulsanic 500mg Tablet, made by Highnoon Laboratories Ltd, is a stomach-lining protector. Its active ingredient is Sucralfate 500mg, and it is used for stomach and duodenal ulcers, chronic gastritis and prevention of stress ulcers. Pack size: 20 tablets.

Uses of Ulsanic 500mg Tablet

Ulsanic 500mg Tablet is used to help heal stomach (gastric) and duodenal ulcers and to protect them from further damage while they heal. It may also be used for chronic gastritis and, in hospital, to prevent stress ulcers in seriously ill patients. Your doctor may also check for and treat Helicobacter pylori infection, a common cause of ulcers.

How Ulsanic 500mg Tablet works

Sucralfate reacts with stomach acid to form a sticky, paste-like layer that binds to the ulcer surface. This acts as a protective barrier against acid, pepsin and bile, giving the ulcer time to heal. Very little of it is absorbed into the body.

Possible side effects

Because very little of Ulsanic 500mg Tablet is absorbed, side effects are uncommon, but they may include:

• Constipation
• Dry mouth
• Nausea
• Indigestion or wind

See a doctor urgently if you vomit blood or material that looks like coffee grounds, pass black tarry stools, or have severe stomach pain.

Precautions and warnings

• Take it on an empty stomach and keep a gap between it and other medicines, as it can reduce the absorption of drugs such as warfarin, digoxin, levothyroxine, phenytoin and some antibiotics.
• Avoid taking antacids at the same time as sucralfate.
• Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, as it contains aluminium, which can build up in the body.
• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, use it only after speaking to your doctor.
• Keep taking it for the full time your doctor recommends, even if your symptoms improve.

Storage

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it in the original pack until use. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
