Isoconazole belongs to the azole group of antifungals. It blocks the production of ergosterol, an essential part of the fungal cell membrane, so the membrane becomes leaky and the fungus stops growing and dies. It works against dermatophytes, yeasts such as Candida and some Gram-positive bacteria.
