Duodart Capsule

Duodart Capsule is a capsule made by Glaxo Smithkline Ltd that contains Dutasteride + Tamsulosin, a combination medicine for an enlarged prostate (5-alpha reductase inhibitor plus alpha-blocker). It is used for enlarged prostate (BPH), difficulty passing urine and frequent urination. Pack size: 30 capsules.

Uses of Duodart Capsule

Duodart Capsule is used in men with a moderately to severely enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia) to relieve urinary symptoms such as a weak stream, difficulty starting, needing to pass urine often or urgently, and getting up at night. It also lowers the risk of sudden inability to pass urine and the need for prostate surgery. It is not a treatment for prostate cancer.

How Duodart Capsule works

This capsule combines two medicines. Tamsulosin relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, so urine flows more easily and symptoms ease fairly quickly. Dutasteride blocks the conversion of testosterone to DHT, a hormone that drives prostate growth, so the prostate gradually shrinks over several months.

Possible side effects

Some men notice side effects with Duodart Capsule, often related to sexual function. Common ones include:

• Reduced sex drive
• Difficulty getting an erection
• Reduced or no ejaculation
• Dizziness, especially on standing
• Breast tenderness or enlargement

Get medical help for fainting, swelling of the face or throat, a painful erection lasting more than four hours, or any lump, pain or discharge in the breast.

Precautions and warnings

• Women, especially those who are or may become pregnant, and children should not handle leaking or damaged capsules, as dutasteride can be absorbed through the skin.
• It lowers PSA blood test results, so tell any doctor checking your PSA that you are taking it.
• If you are having cataract or glaucoma surgery, tell your eye surgeon beforehand, as tamsulosin can affect the iris during the operation.
• Get up slowly from sitting or lying, and avoid driving if you feel dizzy.
• Do not donate blood while taking it and for at least six months after stopping.

Storage

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it in the original pack until use. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
