Uses of Advant 16mg Tablets

Advant 16mg Tablets is used to treat high blood pressure, which lowers the long-term risk of heart attack, stroke and kidney damage. It is also used in heart failure when the heart muscle is not pumping strongly, usually alongside other heart medicines, and is often chosen for people who developed a cough on an ACE inhibitor. It needs to be taken regularly to keep working.

How Advant 16mg Tablets works

Candesartan blocks the action of angiotensin II, a natural hormone that tightens blood vessels and makes the body hold on to salt and water. With this effect blocked, the blood vessels relax and widen, blood pressure falls and the heart does not have to work as hard.

Possible side effects

Most people take Advant 16mg Tablets without trouble, although some notice:

• Dizziness, especially when standing up
• Headache
• Tiredness
• Cold-like symptoms
• Raised potassium levels in blood tests

Get emergency help if your face, lips, tongue or throat swell or you have difficulty breathing. Contact your doctor if you pass much less urine than usual or feel faint.

Precautions and warnings

• Take it regularly, even when you feel well, as high blood pressure often causes no symptoms.
• Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, narrowing of the kidney arteries, liver disease or heart valve problems.
• Avoid potassium supplements and potassium-containing salt substitutes unless advised, and check with your doctor before using NSAID painkillers or lithium.
• If you become dehydrated from vomiting or diarrhoea, speak to your doctor, as you may need to pause it for a short time.
• It must not be used during pregnancy, so tell your doctor straight away if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
