Uses of Floxin 400 mg Tablets

Floxin 400 mg Tablets is used to treat urinary tract infections such as cystitis, and some bacterial infections of the prostate. It is also used for certain bacterial gut infections that cause diarrhoea. Because fluoroquinolone antibiotics carry a risk of rare but serious side effects, they are generally kept for infections where other antibiotics are unsuitable. It does not work against viral infections.

How Floxin 400 mg Tablets works

Norfloxacin blocks two enzymes, DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, that bacteria need to copy and repair their DNA. Without them the bacteria cannot multiply and they die. It reaches high levels in the urine, which is why it is mainly used for urinary infections.

Possible side effects

• Nausea
• Headache

• Keep a gap of a couple of hours between Floxin 400 mg Tablets and antacids, iron, zinc or calcium supplements or dairy drinks, which reduce its absorption.
• It is not recommended for children and teenagers who are still growing, or during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• It can cause dizziness and make the skin more sensitive to sunlight, so take care when driving and protect your skin outdoors.

Storage

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it in the original pack until use. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
