K-Ston Tablet

K-Ston Tablet contains Potassium Citrate, a urinary alkaliser. Made by CCL Pharmaceuticals Ltd, it is prescribed for kidney stone prevention, acidic urine and cystitis discomfort. Pack size: k ston tablets 30s.

Uses of K-Ston Tablet

K-Ston Tablet is used to help stop certain kidney stones from forming or growing, particularly calcium oxalate and uric acid stones, in people whose urine is too acidic or low in citrate. It is also used in some kidney conditions that make the blood too acidic, and as a liquid for short-term relief of the burning discomfort of mild cystitis.

How K-Ston Tablet works

Potassium citrate is converted in the body to bicarbonate, which makes the urine less acidic so uric acid stays dissolved. It also raises the amount of citrate in the urine; citrate binds calcium and stops crystals from clumping together, so stones are less likely to form.

Possible side effects

Stomach-related effects are the most common with K-Ston Tablet. They include:

• Stomach upset or discomfort
• Nausea or vomiting
• Diarrhoea
• Mild abdominal pain

Get medical help promptly for black or bloody stools, severe stomach pain, or signs of high potassium such as muscle weakness, tingling, confusion or an irregular heartbeat.

Precautions and warnings

• Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, heart disease, a stomach ulcer or Addison’s disease, as potassium can build up to dangerous levels.
• Do not combine it with potassium supplements or salt substitutes, and tell your doctor if you take medicines that raise potassium, such as ACE inhibitors, spironolactone or amiloride.
• Take it with food and drink plenty of fluids as advised, which helps prevent stones and protects the stomach.
• Your doctor may check your blood potassium and urine regularly during long-term treatment.
• Check with your doctor before using it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Storage

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it in the original pack until use. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
