Uses of Tanzo Vial 4.5gm

Tanzo Vial 4.5gm is used in hospital to treat serious bacterial infections, including pneumonia caught in hospital, complicated abdominal infections, complicated urinary tract and kidney infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and blood infections. It is also given to people with very low white blood cell counts who develop a fever, where infection is suspected. It does not work against viruses.

How Tanzo Vial 4.5gm works

Piperacillin is a penicillin that stops bacteria from building their cell wall, so they break down and die. Tazobactam blocks beta-lactamase enzymes that some bacteria use to destroy penicillins, allowing piperacillin to work against a wider range of resistant bacteria.

Possible side effects

Tanzo Vial 4.5gm is given under close observation, and the more common side effects include:

• Diarrhoea
• Nausea or vomiting
• Rash or itching
• Pain or swelling at the injection site
• Headache

Tell staff straight away about swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing, a blistering rash, or severe or bloody diarrhoea, which can occur even weeks after treatment.

Precautions and warnings

• It is given only in hospital or clinic settings by trained healthcare professionals who monitor the patient.
• Do not have it if you have ever had an allergic reaction to penicillin, and tell the team about any reaction to cephalosporins or other antibiotics.
