Typhodex Drops

Typhodex Drops contains Tobramycin + Dexamethasone, a combined antibiotic and corticosteroid eye or ear drop. Made by Genix Pharma Ltd Ltd, it is prescribed for bacterial eye infections with inflammation, inflammation after eye surgery and outer ear infections. Pack size: 5 ml drops.

Uses of Typhodex Drops

Typhodex Drops is used for eye conditions where there is both inflammation and a bacterial infection, or a high risk of one, such as some cases of conjunctivitis, inflamed eyelids and recovery after eye surgery. Some doctors also prescribe it for outer ear infections with swelling. It should only be used on a doctor’s advice, as steroid eye drops can make some eye infections worse.

How Typhodex Drops works

Tobramycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that stops bacteria from making the proteins they need, which kills them. Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid that calms inflammation, reducing redness, swelling, itching and discomfort. Together they treat the infection and the irritation it causes.

Possible side effects

Side effects of Typhodex Drops are mostly limited to the eye or ear and include:

• Stinging or burning on application
• Temporary blurred vision
• Eye itching or redness
• Watery eyes
• Eyelid swelling

See a doctor promptly for eye pain, worsening redness, reduced or changed vision, or signs of an allergic reaction such as facial swelling or difficulty breathing.

Precautions and warnings

• Use only for the time prescribed; long use can raise eye pressure and increase the risk of cataracts.
• Do not use it for viral or fungal eye infections, such as herpes of the eye, as the steroid can make these much worse.
• Do not touch the dropper tip to the eye.
• Remove contact lenses before use unless advised otherwise.
• Keep a five-minute gap between different eye drops.

Storage

Store below 30°C, away from direct sunlight. Keep the bottle tightly closed and do not use it after the expiry date or the period stated on the label once opened. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
