Uses of Spasrid Injection

Spasrid Injection is used to relieve cramping pain caused by spasms of the smooth muscle in internal organs. This includes stomach and intestinal cramps, pain from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), colicky pain from gallstones or kidney stones, and painful periods. It eases the spasm itself, so it is often used alongside treatment for the underlying cause.

How Spasrid Injection works

Phloroglucinol, often combined with trimethylphloroglucinol, acts directly on the smooth muscle in the walls of the gut, bile ducts, urinary tract and womb, helping it relax. Unlike many older antispasmodics, it has no atropine-like effects, so dry mouth, blurred vision and urine retention are unlikely.

Possible side effects

• Avoid combining it with strong morphine-type painkillers unless your doctor advises it, as these can increase spasm.
