Rho Gam UF Plus 300mcg Injection contains Anti-D Immunoglobulin 300mcg, a human immunoglobulin (antibody) injection. Made by Amson Farmaco Biologic, it is prescribed for prevention of Rh sensitisation in pregnancy, after childbirth and after Rh-positive blood transfusion. Pack size: 1 pre filled syringe injection.

Uses of Rho Gam UF Plus 300mcg Injection

Rho Gam UF Plus 300mcg Injection is given to RhD-negative women during pregnancy, after the birth of an RhD-positive baby, and after events such as miscarriage, termination, amniocentesis or a blow to the abdomen. It stops the mother’s body making antibodies against RhD-positive blood, which protects future babies from haemolytic disease of the newborn. It may also be used after a mismatched blood transfusion.

How Rho Gam UF Plus 300mcg Injection works

Anti-D immunoglobulin contains ready-made antibodies against the RhD protein. They quickly clear any RhD-positive red blood cells from the baby that have entered the mother’s bloodstream, before her immune system can recognise them and form its own long-lasting antibodies.

Possible side effects

Rho Gam UF Plus 300mcg Injection is generally well tolerated. Effects that may occur include:

• Pain or tenderness at the injection site
• Mild fever or chills
• Headache
• Feeling generally unwell
• Skin rash

Tell the healthcare team straight away if you have difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, a widespread rash or feel faint after the injection.

Precautions and warnings

• It is given by a doctor, midwife or nurse, usually as an injection into a muscle, at the times recommended in your antenatal care.
• Tell the team if you have had a reaction to immunoglobulins or blood products before, or if you have IgA deficiency.
• Live vaccines such as MMR may work less well for some months after anti-D, so mention it before any vaccination.
• It is made from donated human plasma; screening and processing make the risk of passing on infection extremely low.
• Keep a record of each anti-D injection you receive, as this is important information for future pregnancies.
