NovoSeven 50 KIU (1mg) contains Eptacog Alfa 1mg, a recombinant clotting factor (activated factor VII). Made by Novo Nordisk, it is prescribed for bleeding in haemophilia with inhibitors, factor VII deficiency, Glanzmann's thrombasthenia and acquired haemophilia. Pack size: 1 vial rt injection iv.
Uses of NovoSeven 50 KIU (1mg)
NovoSeven 50 KIU (1mg) is used to treat and prevent bleeding in people with haemophilia A or B who have developed inhibitors, antibodies that stop standard factor VIII or IX treatment from working. It is also used for bleeding in acquired haemophilia, inherited factor VII deficiency and Glanzmann’s thrombasthenia, including to cover surgery or other procedures.
How NovoSeven 50 KIU (1mg) works
Eptacog alfa is a laboratory-made form of activated clotting factor VII. At the site of injury it works with tissue factor and platelets to switch on the clotting process directly, producing thrombin and a stable clot. This bypasses the missing or blocked factor VIII or IX.
Possible side effects
NovoSeven 50 KIU (1mg) is usually well tolerated; the effects reported most often are:
- Fever
- Rash or itching
- Pain or reaction at the injection site
- Headache
- Nausea
Seek emergency help for signs of a blood clot, such as chest pain, breathlessness, pain or swelling in one leg, or sudden weakness or difficulty speaking, and for signs of an allergic reaction such as wheezing or facial swelling.
