Uses of Ampiclox 500mg Capsules

Ampiclox 500mg Capsules is used to treat infections where both ampicillin-sensitive bacteria, such as streptococci, and penicillinase-producing staphylococci may be involved. Typical examples include infected wounds, boils and other skin infections, throat and chest infections, and some infections after surgery. It is often chosen when the exact bacteria have not yet been identified. It does not work against viral infections like colds or flu.

How Ampiclox 500mg Capsules works

Both ingredients are penicillins that stop bacteria from building their cell walls. Ampicillin covers a broad range of bacteria, while cloxacillin resists penicillinase, an enzyme some staphylococci produce to destroy ordinary penicillins. Together they treat infections that either drug alone might miss.

Possible side effects

As with other penicillins, Ampiclox 500mg Capsules can cause some side effects. The more common ones are:

• Diarrhoea or loose stools
• Nausea
• Skin rash
• Stomach discomfort

Stop taking it and get emergency help if you have swelling of the face, lips or throat, difficulty breathing or a severe blistering rash. Also seek advice for severe or bloody diarrhoea, or yellowing of the skin or eyes.

Precautions and warnings

• Do not take Ampiclox 500mg Capsules if you are allergic to penicillin, and tell your doctor about any previous reaction to cephalosporins or other antibiotics.
• Finish the whole course prescribed, even if you feel better sooner, to help stop the infection returning and reduce resistance.
• Tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems, or glandular fever, as ampicillin commonly causes a rash in glandular fever.
• Mention other medicines you take, including methotrexate and blood thinners such as warfarin.
• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, use it only after speaking to your doctor.

Storage

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it in the original pack until use. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
