Uses of Bisleri Capsule

Bisleri Capsule is used to prevent and treat iron and folate deficiency, especially during pregnancy, when the body’s need for both rises sharply. Low iron causes anaemia, which can lead to tiredness, breathlessness and pale skin. It may also be advised after heavy periods, blood loss or childbirth, or when the diet does not provide enough of these nutrients.

How Bisleri Capsule works

Ferrous fumarate supplies iron, which the bone marrow uses to make haemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen. Folic acid is a B vitamin needed for cells to divide normally, so it helps the body produce healthy new red blood cells and supports the baby’s development in pregnancy.

Possible side effects

Iron supplements such as Bisleri Capsule often affect the stomach and bowels, for example:

• Dark or black stools
• Constipation
• Nausea
• Stomach pain or discomfort
• Diarrhoea

Iron overdose is dangerous, especially in young children, so get emergency help at once if a child swallows any. See a doctor promptly if you vomit blood or have severe stomach pain.

Precautions and warnings

• Keep Bisleri Capsule out of the sight and reach of children, as even a small number of iron tablets can seriously harm them.
• Tea, coffee, milk and antacids reduce iron absorption, so avoid taking them at the same time; a drink containing vitamin C, such as orange juice, can help.
• Iron can reduce the absorption of some medicines, including tetracycline and quinolone antibiotics and levothyroxine, so keep a gap between them as your pharmacist advises.
• Tell your doctor if you have a condition that causes iron overload, receive regular blood transfusions, or have stomach ulcers or bowel disease.
• Have your blood checked as advised, as the cause of anaemia should be found and other deficiencies, such as vitamin B12, ruled out.

Storage

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it in the original pack until use. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
