Uses of Brimonidine Tartrate 0.2% E/Drop

Brimonidine Tartrate 0.2% E/Drop eye drops are used to lower raised pressure inside the eye in people with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. High eye pressure can slowly damage the optic nerve and lead to permanent loss of sight, often without any early symptoms. The drops can be used on their own or together with other glaucoma drops when one medicine is not enough.

How Brimonidine Tartrate 0.2% E/Drop works

Brimonidine stimulates alpha-2 receptors in the eye. This reduces the amount of fluid (aqueous humour) produced inside the eye and helps more fluid drain out, which lowers the pressure and helps protect the optic nerve from further damage.

• After putting in the drops, press gently on the inner corner of the eye for about a minute to reduce the amount absorbed into the body.
• It must not be used in babies and young children, as it can cause serious drowsiness and breathing problems.
• Tell your doctor if you have heart or blood vessel disease or depression, or take antidepressants such as MAOIs or tricyclics, and take care driving if it makes you drowsy or blurs your vision.
• Remove soft contact lenses before use, and keep up regular eye pressure checks with your eye doctor.

Storage

Store below 30°C, away from direct sunlight. Keep the bottle tightly closed and do not use it after the expiry date or the period stated on the label once opened. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
