Brufen Plus Tablets is a tablet made by Abbott Laboratories (pakistan) Ltd that contains Ibuprofen + Codeine, a combination of an anti-inflammatory painkiller and an opioid painkiller. It is used for moderate pain, dental pain, period pain, back pain and muscle pain. Pack size: 20 tablets.

Uses of Brufen Plus Tablets

Brufen Plus Tablets is used for the short-term relief of moderate pain that has not been controlled by ordinary painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen on their own. Examples include toothache and pain after dental work, period pain, back pain, muscle and joint pain, and headache. It is intended for short courses only, because the codeine part can cause dependence.

How Brufen Plus Tablets works

Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that blocks the production of prostaglandins, chemicals that cause pain and swelling. Codeine is an opioid that is converted in the body to morphine, which acts on the brain and spinal cord to reduce how pain is felt.

Possible side effects

Like all painkillers containing codeine, Brufen Plus Tablets can cause some side effects. The commoner ones include:

• Constipation
• Nausea or indigestion
• Drowsiness
• Dizziness
• Stomach pain

Stop taking it and get urgent help if you have black or bloody stools, vomit blood, slow or shallow breathing, extreme sleepiness, or signs of an allergic reaction such as facial swelling or wheezing.

Precautions and warnings

• Use it for the shortest time possible; taking codeine regularly for more than a few days can lead to dependence, and stopping after longer use may cause withdrawal symptoms.
• Tell your doctor if you have a history of stomach ulcers or bleeding, asthma worsened by NSAIDs, kidney, liver or heart disease, or breathing problems.
• It should not be given to children under 12, and is not recommended in pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
• Avoid alcohol and other sedating medicines, and do not drive if it makes you drowsy.
• Do not take it with other NSAIDs or other codeine-containing products, and check with a pharmacist about blood thinners and blood pressure medicines.

Storage

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it in the original pack until use. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
