Uses of Coversyl 8mg Tablet

Coversyl 8mg Tablet is used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure. In people with stable coronary artery disease, it is also used to reduce the risk of heart attack and other heart problems. Lowering blood pressure over time protects the heart, kidneys, brain and blood vessels. High blood pressure rarely causes symptoms, so it is usually taken long term even when you feel well.

How Coversyl 8mg Tablet works

Perindopril blocks an enzyme called angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), which the body uses to make angiotensin II, a hormone that tightens blood vessels. With less angiotensin II, blood vessels relax and widen, blood pressure falls and the heart does not have to work as hard to pump blood.

Possible side effects

Most people take Coversyl 8mg Tablet without trouble, though some notice:

• Dry, tickly cough
• Dizziness or light-headedness
• Headache
• Tiredness
• Stomach upset
• Muscle cramps

Get emergency help if you notice swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, or difficulty breathing or swallowing. Also see a doctor promptly for yellowing of the skin, a severe rash or passing much less urine.

Precautions and warnings

• Do not use Coversyl 8mg Tablet if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, as it can harm the developing baby; tell your doctor straight away if you become pregnant.
• Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, narrowing of the kidney arteries, or have ever had swelling of the face or throat (angioedema).
• Avoid potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium unless advised, and mention other medicines such as diuretics, lithium and anti-inflammatory painkillers like ibuprofen.
• Dizziness is most likely at the start, so stand up slowly and avoid driving if affected.
• Your doctor will check kidney function and potassium levels with blood tests from time to time.

Storage

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it in the original pack until use. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
