Uses of Digestine Capsule

Digestine Capsule is used for short-term treatment of nausea and vomiting, including sickness after surgery, during chemotherapy or radiotherapy, and with migraine attacks, where it also helps migraine painkillers to be absorbed. Because of the risk of movement side effects, it is used only for short periods and is not recommended for young children.

How Digestine Capsule works

Metoclopramide blocks dopamine receptors in the part of the brain that triggers vomiting. It also helps the stomach empty more quickly into the intestine and tightens the valve at the top of the stomach, which reduces the feeling of sickness and bloating.

Possible side effects

Some people get side effects with Digestine Capsule, particularly younger people. The more common ones are:

• Drowsiness
• Restlessness
• Diarrhoea
• Low mood
• Weakness or tiredness

Stop and seek help for uncontrolled muscle spasms of the face, eyes, tongue or neck, high fever with stiffness and confusion, or a fast or irregular heartbeat.

Precautions and warnings

• Use it only for short periods, as longer use increases the risk of movement disorders that may not go away.
• Tell your doctor if you have epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, a bowel blockage or bleeding, or a history of movement disorders.
• Do not take it with levodopa or other medicines for Parkinson’s disease unless your doctor advises it.
• Avoid alcohol and do not drive if it makes you drowsy.
• Speak to your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Storage

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it in the original pack until use. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
