Uses of Doxagit 4mg Tablet

Doxagit 4mg Tablet is used to treat high blood pressure, usually alongside other blood pressure medicines. It is also used in men with an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia) to ease urinary symptoms such as a weak stream, difficulty starting, frequent urination and needing to get up at night. It relieves these symptoms but does not shrink the prostate.

How Doxagit 4mg Tablet works

Doxazosin blocks alpha-1 receptors on smooth muscle. In blood vessel walls this lets the vessels relax and widen, lowering blood pressure. In the prostate and the neck of the bladder it relaxes the muscle around the urine passage, so urine can flow more easily.

Possible side effects

Side effects of Doxagit 4mg Tablet are often most noticeable in the first few days. Common ones include:

• Dizziness, especially when standing up
• Tiredness
• Headache
• Swelling of the ankles
• Blocked or runny nose
• Nausea

Get medical help if you faint, have chest pain or a fast irregular heartbeat, or, in men, a painful erection lasting more than four hours.

Precautions and warnings

• The first dose can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, so your doctor may advise taking it at bedtime; stand up slowly and sit or lie down if you feel faint.
• Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you, and limit alcohol, which can add to dizziness.
• Tell your doctor about other blood pressure medicines and erectile dysfunction medicines such as sildenafil or tadalafil, as these can lower blood pressure further.
• If you are due to have cataract surgery, tell your eye surgeon you take it, as it can affect the iris during the operation.
• Let your doctor know if you have liver disease, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
