Uses of Fosedic-B Cream

Fosedic-B Cream is used for inflammatory skin conditions, such as eczema or dermatitis, where the skin has also become infected with bacteria or infection is likely. The steroid settles the redness, swelling and itching while the antibiotic deals with the infection. It is meant for short courses on a limited area of skin, as directed by your doctor.

How Fosedic-B Cream works

Fusidic acid is an antibiotic that stops bacteria, especially Staphylococcus aureus, from making the proteins they need to grow. Betamethasone valerate is a potent corticosteroid that reduces inflammation by calming the skin’s immune response, easing itching, redness and swelling.

Possible side effects

When used as directed for a short time, Fosedic-B Cream usually causes few problems, but you may get:

• Itching, burning or stinging where applied
• Skin irritation or redness
• Skin thinning with prolonged use
• Stretch marks or visible small blood vessels with long use

Stop using it and see a doctor if the rash spreads, the infection gets worse, or you develop swelling, blistering or signs of a severe allergic reaction.

Precautions and warnings

• Use it only for as long as your doctor recommends, usually no more than two weeks, because longer use can make bacteria resistant to fusidic acid.
• Apply a thin layer to the affected area only, avoid the eyes, and do not use it for long periods on the face, groin or armpits, where the skin is thinner.
• It is not a fairness or skin-lightening cream and should never be used for cosmetic purposes.
• Do not use it on acne, rosacea, or skin infections caused by viruses or fungi, such as cold sores, chickenpox or ringworm, unless your doctor advises it.
• Check with your doctor before using it on a child or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and do not apply it to the breast before feeding.

Storage

Store below 30°C and keep the cap tightly closed. For external use only; avoid contact with the eyes unless the product is made for eye use. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
