Geopride 3mg Tablet is used together with diet and exercise to lower blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It can be used on its own or with other diabetes medicines such as metformin or insulin. Good blood sugar control helps prevent long-term problems with the eyes, kidneys, nerves and heart.

How Geopride 3mg Tablet works

Glimepiride helps the pancreas release more insulin, the hormone that moves sugar from the blood into the body’s cells. It works best when the pancreas can still make some insulin.

Possible side effects

The most important side effect of Geopride 3mg Tablet is low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia). Other side effects can include:

Low blood sugar: shakiness, sweating, hunger, fast heartbeat or confusion
Nausea or stomach upset
Headache or dizziness
Weight gain

If you have signs of low blood sugar, take sugar, glucose or a sweet drink straight away and then eat a meal. Seek medical help if it does not improve or happens often.

Precautions and warnings

Take it with breakfast or the first main meal of the day, and do not skip meals.
Check your blood sugar regularly as your doctor advises.
Alcohol, heavy exercise and missed meals increase the risk of low blood sugar.
Tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease or a G6PD deficiency.
It is not used for type 1 diabetes, and is generally avoided in pregnancy.
