Uses of Hydrogen Peroxide Solution

Hydrogen Peroxide Solution is used to clean minor cuts and grazes and to help remove dirt and dried blood. Diluted forms may also be used as ear drops to soften and loosen ear wax, or as a mouth rinse for minor gum irritation. It is not meant for deep wounds, burns or serious injuries, which need medical attention.

How Hydrogen Peroxide Solution works

Hydrogen peroxide releases oxygen when it touches tissue, producing the familiar fizzing. This bubbling helps lift dirt and debris from a wound or break up ear wax, and the oxygen release has a mild antiseptic effect against some germs.

Possible side effects

Hydrogen Peroxide Solution is generally safe when used as directed, but it can cause:

• Stinging or burning
• Temporary whitening of the skin
• A fizzing or crackling feeling in the ear
• Mild skin irritation

Seek medical care for deep, large or dirty wounds, or if a wound becomes hot, swollen, red or painful, as these may be signs of infection.

Precautions and warnings

• For external use only; avoid the eyes and never swallow it.
• Use it at the strength stated on the pack; stronger solutions can damage skin.
• Do not use it in the ear if you have, or may have, a perforated eardrum, ear pain or discharge.
• Repeated use on healing wounds can slow healing, so use it only for initial cleaning.
• Use it for the time advised and see a doctor if the problem does not improve.

Storage

Store below 30°C, away from direct sunlight. Keep the bottle tightly closed and do not use it after the expiry date or the period stated on the label once opened. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
