Uses of Hyruan Plus

Hyruan Plus is used in two main ways. Injections given into the knee can ease pain and stiffness from osteoarthritis, particularly when painkillers and exercise have not been enough. Eye drops relieve the dryness, grittiness and irritation of dry eye, including from screen use or contact lens wear, and help protect the surface of the eye.

How Hyruan Plus works

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in joint fluid and on the surface of the eye. In the knee it adds to the thick fluid that lubricates and cushions the joint. In the eye it holds water, forming a smooth, long-lasting moist layer that protects the cornea.

Possible side effects

Side effects of Hyruan Plus are generally mild and short-lived. They include:

• Joint pain or swelling after injection
• Warmth or redness at the injection site
• Joint stiffness for a day or two
• Temporary blurred vision after eye drops
• Mild eye stinging

Seek help promptly for a hot, very swollen or very painful joint, especially with fever, as this could be an infection. Get urgent help for any signs of an allergic reaction.

Precautions and warnings

• Joint injections are given by a doctor, and you may be advised to avoid strenuous activity for a short time afterwards.
• Tell your doctor if you have a skin infection near the joint or a bleeding disorder.
• Let your doctor know about allergies, including to bird proteins, as some products are derived from rooster combs.
• For eye drops, check the leaflet before using them with contact lenses, and see a doctor if dry eye does not improve.
• Speak to your doctor about injections if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
