Kempro Tablets

Kempro Tablets contains Procyclidine, an anticholinergic (antimuscarinic) medicine. Made by Adamjee Pharmaceuticals Ltd., it is prescribed for drug-induced movement disorders and Parkinson's symptoms. Pack size: 100 tablets.

Uses of Kempro Tablets

Kempro Tablets is used to reduce movement problems caused by antipsychotic medicines, such as stiffness, tremor and sudden muscle spasms of the face, neck or eyes. It is also used, less often nowadays, to ease tremor and rigidity in Parkinson’s disease. It does not help tardive dyskinesia (slow, repetitive involuntary movements), which it may make worse.

How Kempro Tablets works

Procyclidine blocks acetylcholine, a chemical messenger in the brain. In Parkinson’s disease, and when antipsychotics block dopamine, acetylcholine becomes relatively overactive and causes stiffness and tremor. Reducing its effect helps restore the balance between acetylcholine and dopamine, easing these movement symptoms.

Possible side effects

Kempro Tablets can cause anticholinergic side effects, which are often mild. Common ones include:

• Dry mouth
• Blurred vision
• Constipation
• Difficulty passing urine
• Dizziness
• Nervousness

Get urgent help for confusion, hallucinations, a very fast heartbeat, being unable to pass urine, or a painful red eye with blurred vision.

Precautions and warnings

• Tell your doctor if you have glaucoma, an enlarged prostate or difficulty passing urine, bowel blockage, heart rhythm problems or myasthenia gravis.
• Older people are more likely to become confused or forgetful on it, so it is used with extra care in later life.
• Take it only as prescribed, and do not stop it suddenly without speaking to your doctor.
• Avoid alcohol and do not drive until you know how it affects you. Take care in hot weather, as it can reduce sweating and raise the risk of overheating.
• Discuss pregnancy and breastfeeding with your doctor before use.

Storage

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it in the original pack until use. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
