Uses of Lukodermine Tablets 10mg

Lukodermine Tablets 10mg is used together with carefully controlled ultraviolet A (UVA) light, a treatment known as PUVA, for skin conditions such as vitiligo and severe psoriasis. In vitiligo it can help bring colour back to pale patches, and in psoriasis it helps clear thick, scaly plaques when creams have not worked well. It is only used under the supervision of a dermatologist.

How Lukodermine Tablets 10mg works

Methoxsalen is a psoralen, a natural compound that makes the skin far more sensitive to ultraviolet A light. When the treated skin is then exposed to UVA, the combination slows the overactive growth of skin cells in psoriasis and stimulates pigment-producing cells in vitiligo.

Possible side effects

Because Lukodermine Tablets 10mg makes the skin sensitive to light, some reactions are expected. The more common ones include:

• Nausea
• Itching
• Skin redness or sunburn-like reactions
• Dizziness or headache
• Dry skin

Get medical help promptly if you develop severe burning, blistering or swelling of the skin, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or signs of an allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing.

Precautions and warnings

• Protect your skin and eyes from sunlight on treatment days, and wear UV-blocking sunglasses for as long as your dermatologist advises, as the medicine can damage the eyes and increase the risk of cataracts.
• Tell your doctor if you have liver disease, lupus, porphyria, cataracts or a history of skin cancer or melanoma.
• Let your doctor know about other medicines that increase sensitivity to light, such as some antibiotics, water tablets and acne treatments.
• Long-term PUVA treatment increases the risk of skin cancer, so regular skin checks are important.
• Lukodermine Tablets 10mg is not usually used during pregnancy or breastfeeding, so speak to your doctor first.

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it in the original pack until use. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
