Its active ingredient is Misoprostol, and it is used for prevention of NSAID-induced stomach ulcers, stomach and duodenal ulcers, heavy bleeding after childbirth and other obstetric uses under medical supervision. Uses of Misotal Tablet

Misotal Tablet is used to protect the stomach lining in people who need to take anti-inflammatory painkillers (NSAIDs) such as diclofenac or naproxen, and to help heal stomach and duodenal ulcers. In obstetrics and gynaecology it is used only under direct specialist supervision, for example to help prevent or control heavy bleeding after childbirth. It must never be used during pregnancy without a doctor’s direction.

How Misotal Tablet works

Misoprostol is a man-made version of prostaglandin E1, a natural substance that lowers stomach acid production and strengthens the protective mucus layer of the stomach. It also makes the muscle of the womb contract and softens the cervix, which is why its use in women is closely controlled.

Possible side effects

Misotal Tablet can cause stomach-related side effects, especially in the first few days. The more common ones include:

• Diarrhoea
• Stomach cramps or pain
• Nausea
• Wind and bloating
• Headache

Get urgent medical help for heavy vaginal bleeding, severe abdominal pain, fever, or signs of an allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or difficulty breathing.

Precautions and warnings

• Misotal Tablet can cause miscarriage and birth defects, so it must not be taken during pregnancy except under direct medical supervision.
• Women who could become pregnant should use reliable contraception while taking it for stomach protection.
• Taking it with food can help reduce diarrhoea, and antacids containing magnesium should be avoided as they can make diarrhoea worse.
• Tell your doctor if you have inflammatory bowel disease, heart or blood vessel disease, or any condition where dehydration could be dangerous.
• If you are breastfeeding, check with your doctor before using it.

Storage

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it in the original pack until use. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
