Categories: Cold & Flu, Cough, Fever, Medicine
Nicor Cough Syp Syrup, made by Abbott Laboratories (pakistan) Ltd, is a combination cough and cold medicine. Its active ingredient is Paracetamol + Pseudoephedrine + Diphenhydramine + Pholcodine, and it is used for dry cough, common cold, flu symptoms, nasal congestion and fever. Pack size: 120ml syrup.
Uses of Nicor Cough Syp Syrup
Nicor Cough Syp Syrup is used for short-term relief of a dry, irritating cough together with other cold and flu symptoms, such as a blocked or runny nose, sneezing, headache, body aches and fever. It is suited to dry coughs rather than chesty coughs that bring up phlegm. It relieves symptoms only and does not treat the underlying infection.
How Nicor Cough Syp Syrup works
Paracetamol relieves pain and lowers fever. Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant that clears a blocked nose. Diphenhydramine is a sedating antihistamine that dries a runny nose and can help sleep, and pholcodine acts on the brain’s cough centre to calm a dry cough.
Possible side effects
Side effects from Nicor Cough Syp Syrup are usually mild and may include:
- Drowsiness
- Dry mouth
- Constipation
- Dizziness
- Restlessness or difficulty sleeping
- Nausea
Get emergency help if you have slow or shallow breathing, extreme drowsiness, chest pain, a fast or irregular heartbeat, or swelling of the face and difficulty breathing.
Precautions and warnings
- Do not take any other medicine containing paracetamol while using Nicor Cough Syp Syrup, as too much paracetamol can cause serious liver damage.
- Pholcodine has been linked to severe allergic reactions to muscle relaxants used during general anaesthesia, so tell your anaesthetist if you have taken it in the past year.
- It causes drowsiness, so do not drive or drink alcohol while taking it, and avoid other sedatives or opioid medicines.
- Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease, asthma, high blood pressure, heart disease, glaucoma, an enlarged prostate or have taken an MAOI in the last two weeks.
- Not suitable for young children, or in pregnancy and breastfeeding unless a doctor advises it, and should only be used for a few days.
Storage
Store below 30°C, away from direct sunlight. Keep the bottle tightly closed and do not use it after the expiry date or the period stated on the label once opened. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
