Uses of Norplate-S 75mg/75mg Tablet

Norplate-S 75mg/75mg Tablet is used to prevent blood clots in people who have had acute coronary syndrome, such as a heart attack or unstable angina, and in those who have had a stent placed in a heart artery. Taking both medicines together for a set period lowers the risk of another heart attack, a stroke or the stent becoming blocked. Your cardiologist decides how long you need the combination.

How Norplate-S 75mg/75mg Tablet works

Clopidogrel and aspirin both make platelets, the blood cells that start clots, less sticky, but they do this in different ways. Clopidogrel blocks a receptor that platelets need in order to clump together, while aspirin stops them making a clotting signal called thromboxane. Together they protect against clots more strongly than either alone.

Possible side effects

Because Norplate-S 75mg/75mg Tablet thins the blood, bleeding-related effects are the most common. They include:

• Bruising easily
• Nosebleeds or bleeding gums
• Indigestion or stomach pain
• Diarrhoea
• Prolonged bleeding from small cuts

Get urgent help for black or bloody stools, vomiting blood, blood in the urine, a severe headache, sudden weakness or confusion, or bleeding that will not stop.

Precautions and warnings

• Never stop taking it without your cardiologist’s advice, especially after a stent, as stopping early can cause a dangerous clot.
• Tell your dentist and any surgeon that you take it before a procedure.
• Avoid NSAID painkillers such as ibuprofen, and tell your doctor about other medicines, as omeprazole, esomeprazole and blood thinners can affect how it works or increase bleeding.
• Tell your doctor if you have had a stomach ulcer, bleeding problems, asthma triggered by aspirin, or liver or kidney disease.
• It is not suitable for children under 16 because it contains aspirin, and should be discussed with your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Storage

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it in the original pack until use. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
