Penvee 125mg Syrup

Penvee 125mg Syrup, made by Polyfine, is a penicillin antibiotic. Its active ingredient is Phenoxymethylpenicillin (Penicillin V) 125mg, and it is used for throat infections, rheumatic fever prevention, skin infections and dental infections. Pack size: 60ml syrup.

Uses of Penvee 125mg Syrup

Penvee 125mg Syrup is used to treat infections caused by bacteria sensitive to penicillin, especially streptococcal sore throat and tonsillitis, some skin infections such as cellulitis and erysipelas, and dental infections. It is also taken long term to prevent repeat attacks of rheumatic fever and to protect people without a working spleen, including those with sickle cell disease. It does not work for viral infections.

How Penvee 125mg Syrup works

Phenoxymethylpenicillin stops bacteria from building their cell walls. The weakened bacteria burst and die, allowing the immune system to clear the infection. Unlike injectable benzylpenicillin, it is stable in stomach acid, so it can be taken by mouth.

Penvee 125mg Syrup is one of the longest-established antibiotics, and most people tolerate it well. Common side effects include:

• Diarrhoea
• Nausea
• Skin rash
• Stomach upset
• Oral or vaginal thrush
