Uses of Povidone Solution

Povidone Solution is used to clean and disinfect the skin and to help prevent infection in minor cuts, grazes and small burns. Hospitals use it to prepare skin before surgery or injections. Gargle and mouthwash forms are used for mouth and throat infections and sore throat, and other forms are used for vaginal infections. It is applied to the affected area, not swallowed.

How Povidone Solution works

Povidone-iodine slowly releases free iodine, which kills a broad range of germs, including bacteria, fungi and many viruses, by damaging their proteins and cell structures. The povidone carrier lets the iodine work for longer and makes it less irritating.

Possible side effects

Povidone Solution is generally well tolerated. You might notice:

Precautions and warnings

• Tell your doctor if you have thyroid disease, kidney problems or are taking lithium.
• Avoid regular use in pregnancy, while breastfeeding and in newborn babies unless a doctor advises, as iodine may affect the baby’s thyroid.
• Do not use it if you are allergic to iodine.

Storage

Store below 30°C, away from direct sunlight. Keep the bottle tightly closed and do not use it after the expiry date or the period stated on the label once opened. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
