Ryticef Plus

Ryticef Plus is an injection made by Roryan Pharma that contains Cefoperazone, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic given by injection, often combined with sulbactam. It is used for chest infections, abdominal infections, urinary tract infections, blood infections, gynaecological infections, and skin and soft tissue infections. Pack size: 1 vial injection.

Uses of Ryticef Plus

Ryticef Plus is used for moderate to severe bacterial infections, often in hospital. These include chest infections, infections inside the abdomen, complicated urinary tract infections, septicaemia, pelvic and gynaecological infections, and skin and soft tissue infections. Many products combine it with sulbactam, which protects it from bacteria that would otherwise break it down.

How Ryticef Plus works

Cefoperazone stops bacteria from building their cell wall. When combined with sulbactam, it can also work against bacteria that produce beta-lactamase enzymes. Ryticef Plus is given as an injection into a vein or muscle by a doctor or nurse, usually in hospital or a clinic.

Possible side effects

Common side effects of Ryticef Plus include:

• Diarrhoea or loose stools
• Pain at the injection site
• Skin rash
• Nausea

Stop and get medical help straight away if you notice swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing, a severe skin rash, or severe or bloody diarrhoea.

Precautions and warnings

• Avoid alcohol during treatment and for a few days afterwards, as it can cause flushing, headache and vomiting with this medicine.
• It can affect blood clotting, so tell your doctor if you take blood thinners or have a bleeding problem.
• Tell your doctor if you have ever had an allergic reaction to any antibiotic, especially penicillins or cephalosporins.
• Finish the full course your doctor prescribes, even if you feel better earlier. Stopping early can let the infection return and makes resistance more likely.
• Let your doctor know if you have kidney or liver disease.
• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, use Ryticef Plus only after speaking to your doctor.

Storage

Store as directed on the pack, protected from light. Injections should only be prepared and given by a doctor, nurse or other trained healthcare professional. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
