Uses of Telox 300mg Tablet

Telox 300mg Tablet is used to control partial (focal) seizures, with or without spread to a generalised tonic-clonic seizure, in adults and children. It can be used on its own or added to other epilepsy medicines. It is closely related to carbamazepine but tends to cause fewer interactions with other medicines, and it is taken long term to keep seizures under control.

How Telox 300mg Tablet works

Oxcarbazepine is converted in the body to an active form that blocks sodium channels in nerve cells. This stops nerve cells firing in rapid, repeated bursts and prevents abnormal electrical activity from spreading through the brain and causing a seizure.

Possible side effects

Side effects of Telox 300mg Tablet are most common when starting treatment and often ease. They include:

• Dizziness
• Drowsiness or tiredness
• Headache
• Nausea or vomiting
• Double vision

See a doctor straight away for a rash, blistering or peeling skin or mouth ulcers, or for signs of low sodium such as confusion, more frequent seizures, severe headache and drowsiness. Thoughts of self-harm also need urgent help.

Precautions and warnings

• Do not stop it suddenly, as this can trigger seizures; your doctor will reduce it gradually if needed.
• It makes hormonal contraceptives less effective, so use an additional or alternative method of contraception.
• Your doctor may check your blood sodium level, especially if you also take diuretics or other medicines that lower sodium.
• Tell your doctor if you have had a rash with carbamazepine, or have heart, liver or kidney problems. People of Han Chinese or Thai origin may be tested for a gene linked to severe skin reactions.
• Avoid alcohol, do not drive until you know how it affects you, and discuss pregnancy plans with your doctor.

Storage

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it in the original pack until use. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
