Uses of Vinblas 10mg Injection

Vinblas 10mg Injection is a chemotherapy medicine used, usually together with other anticancer drugs, to treat Hodgkin lymphoma, some non-Hodgkin lymphomas, testicular cancer and Kaposi sarcoma. It is also used for certain other cancers and for Langerhans cell histiocytosis. It is given into a vein in hospital or a specialist clinic, as part of a treatment plan made by a cancer specialist.

How Vinblas 10mg Injection works

Vinblastine binds to tubulin, a protein that cells use to build the internal scaffolding needed to separate their chromosomes when they divide. Without this scaffolding, cancer cells become stuck partway through division and die.

Possible side effects

Vinblas 10mg Injection affects healthy cells as well as cancer cells. Common side effects include:

• Low blood counts and a higher risk of infection
• Hair loss
• Constipation
• Nausea
• Tingling or numbness in the fingers and toes
• Jaw or bone pain

Contact your cancer team straight away if you have a fever or chills, unusual bleeding or bruising, severe constipation or stomach pain, or pain, redness or swelling where the injection was given.

Precautions and warnings

• It is given only into a vein by trained staff and must never be given by any other route.
• Regular blood tests are needed to check your blood counts before each treatment.
• Tell your team about any nerve problems, liver disease and all other medicines, as some antifungals and other drugs can increase its side effects.
• It can harm an unborn baby, so use effective contraception and do not breastfeed during treatment.
• Avoid live vaccines and close contact with people who have infections, and report any fever promptly.
