Yaz Plus Tablet is a tablet made by Bayer Pharma (PVT.) Ltd that contains Drospirenone + Ethinylestradiol, a combined oral contraceptive pill. It is used for contraception, acne and PMS.

Uses of Yaz Plus Tablet

Yaz Plus Tablet is a combined contraceptive pill used to prevent pregnancy. Because drospirenone has anti-androgen and mild water-reducing effects, it may also help with acne, bloating and premenstrual symptoms (PMS) in women who want contraception. Many women find their periods become lighter and more regular. It does not protect against sexually transmitted infections.

How Yaz Plus Tablet works

Ethinylestradiol (an oestrogen) and drospirenone (a progestogen) work together to stop the ovaries releasing an egg each month. They also thicken the mucus at the neck of the womb, making it harder for sperm to enter, and thin the womb lining.

Possible side effects

In the first few months many women settle quickly on Yaz Plus Tablet, though some notice:

• Breakthrough bleeding or spotting
• Nausea
• Headache
• Breast tenderness
• Mood changes
• Changes in weight

Seek urgent medical help for pain or swelling in one leg, sudden chest pain or breathlessness, coughing up blood, a sudden severe headache, weakness or numbness on one side, or yellowing of the skin or eyes.

Precautions and warnings

• It is not suitable if you have had a blood clot, stroke or heart attack, have migraine with aura, or are over 35 and smoke.
• Tell your doctor about high blood pressure, liver disease, kidney or adrenal problems, diabetes or a history of breast cancer.
• Some medicines, including rifampicin, certain epilepsy drugs and St John’s wort, can stop the pill working; extra contraception may be needed.
• Follow the leaflet carefully if you miss a pill or have vomiting or severe diarrhoea, as protection may be reduced.
• Do not take Yaz Plus Tablet if you are pregnant, and ask your doctor before using it while breastfeeding.

Storage

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it in the original pack until use. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
