Uses of Di-Card 10mg Tablet

Di-Card 10mg Tablet is used to prevent angina, the chest pain that happens when the heart muscle is not getting enough blood and oxygen. Taken regularly it reduces how often attacks occur, while the sublingual form, placed under the tongue, works within minutes to relieve an attack or can be used before activity known to bring one on. Doctors sometimes also use it, alongside hydralazine, in heart failure.

How Di-Card 10mg Tablet works

Isosorbide dinitrate is converted in the body into nitric oxide, which relaxes and widens blood vessels. Wider veins return less blood to the heart, and wider arteries reduce the resistance it has to pump against, so the heart needs less oxygen and chest pain eases.

Possible side effects

Headache is very common when starting Di-Card 10mg Tablet and often settles after the first week or two. Other common effects include:

• Throbbing headache
• Flushing of the face
• Dizziness or light-headedness, especially on standing
• Fast heartbeat
• Nausea

Call for emergency help if chest pain is not relieved within a few minutes of using it, or if you faint or feel very unwell. Chest pain that keeps coming back or lasts longer than usual may be a heart attack.

Precautions and warnings

• Never take Di-Card 10mg Tablet with sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil or riociguat, as the combination can cause a dangerous fall in blood pressure.
• Sit down when you use the under-the-tongue form, because it can make you feel faint.
• Do not stop regular treatment suddenly, as this can bring on angina attacks; your doctor will advise how to come off it.
• Alcohol can increase dizziness and the blood pressure-lowering effect, so keep it to a minimum.
• Tell your doctor if you have low blood pressure, severe anaemia, glaucoma, a recent head injury or certain heart valve problems, and if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Storage

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it in the original pack until use. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
