Leemycin 500mg Capsule is a capsule that contains Lincomycin 500mg, a lincosamide antibiotic. It is used for serious skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, chest infections, throat infections and dental infections. Pack size: 12 capsules.

Uses of Leemycin 500mg Capsule

Leemycin 500mg Capsule is used to treat serious bacterial infections, particularly in people who cannot take penicillin because of an allergy. It may be given by injection or as capsules for infections of the skin and soft tissues, bones and joints, chest, throat and teeth. Because of the risk of bowel side effects, it is usually kept for situations where other antibiotics are not suitable. It does not treat viral infections.

How Leemycin 500mg Capsule works

Lincomycin attaches to the parts of the bacterial cell that make proteins. Without these proteins the bacteria cannot grow or multiply, which gives the immune system the chance to clear the infection. It works mainly against gram-positive bacteria such as streptococci and staphylococci, and against some anaerobic bacteria.

Possible side effects

Like all antibiotics, Leemycin 500mg Capsule can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them. Common ones include:

• Diarrhoea
• Nausea or vomiting
• Stomach discomfort
• Skin rash or itching
• Pain or irritation at the injection site

Stop taking it and contact your doctor straight away if you develop severe, watery or bloody diarrhoea, even weeks after finishing the course, or signs of an allergic reaction such as facial swelling or wheezing.

Precautions and warnings

• Tell your doctor about any previous allergy to lincomycin, clindamycin or other antibiotics.
• Let your doctor know if you have ever had colitis or other bowel problems, as Leemycin 500mg Capsule can trigger a serious bowel infection.
• Mention any kidney or liver disease, as your treatment may need adjusting.
• Finish the full course your doctor prescribes, even if you feel better sooner.
• Speak to your doctor before using it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Storage

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it in the original pack until use. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
