Enoxabid 400mg Tablet, made by Abbott Laboratories (pakistan) Ltd, is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. Its active ingredient is Enoxacin 400mg, and it is used for urinary tract infections, infectious diarrhoea and uncomplicated gonorrhoea. Pack size: 20s tablet.

Uses of Enoxabid 400mg Tablet

Enoxabid 400mg Tablet is an older antibiotic used mainly to treat urinary tract infections, including bladder infections, and certain other bacterial infections such as uncomplicated gonorrhoea and some bacterial causes of diarrhoea. Because fluoroquinolones can have rare but serious side effects, doctors generally keep them for infections where other antibiotics are unsuitable. It does not work against viruses.

How Enoxabid 400mg Tablet works

Enoxacin blocks bacterial enzymes called DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which bacteria need to copy and repair their genetic material. Without them the bacteria cannot multiply and are killed, allowing the infection to clear.

Possible side effects

Side effects of Enoxabid 400mg Tablet are usually mild. Those reported most often include:

• Nausea
• Stomach pain or indigestion
• Diarrhoea
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Difficulty sleeping

Stop taking it and get medical help if you have tendon pain or swelling, tingling or numbness in the hands or feet, a severe rash or swelling of the face, fits, sudden severe chest, stomach or back pain, or severe diarrhoea.

Precautions and warnings

• It greatly increases blood levels of theophylline and caffeine, so tell your doctor if you take theophylline and cut down on coffee and tea during treatment.
• Antacids and iron, zinc or calcium products reduce its absorption, so take them well apart from Enoxabid 400mg Tablet as your pharmacist advises.
• Tell your doctor if you have epilepsy, kidney disease, myasthenia gravis or a history of tendon problems; older people and those taking steroids have a higher risk of tendon damage.
• It is not usually used in children or during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• Finish the course as prescribed, and avoid strong sunlight, as your skin may burn more easily.

Storage

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it in the original pack until use. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
