• Swelling of the ankles or legs
• Headache
• Anaemia
• Raised cholesterol

Seek medical help urgently if you become breathless, gain weight rapidly, have chest pain, or notice yellow skin, dark urine, or blurred or distorted vision.

Precautions and warnings

• It must not be used by people who have or have had heart failure, and your doctor will consider any heart disease carefully before prescribing it.
• Tell your doctor if you have liver disease, kidney problems or eye problems such as macular oedema.
• Women taking it have a higher risk of bone fractures, particularly in the arms, hands and feet.
• Low blood sugar is more likely when it is taken with a sulfonylurea, so learn the warning signs.
• It is not used for type 1 diabetes and should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Storage

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it in the original pack until use. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
