Uses of Ironic Tablet

Ironic Tablet is an iron supplement used to treat and prevent iron deficiency and iron deficiency anaemia. Low iron is common during pregnancy, after heavy periods or blood loss, and with a poor diet, and it can cause tiredness, weakness, breathlessness and pale skin. Treatment usually continues for a while after blood levels return to normal, to refill the body’s iron stores.

How Ironic Tablet works

Iron polysaccharide complex contains iron bound to a sugar-based carrier. The body absorbs this iron gradually from the gut and uses it to make haemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen. This form is often gentler on the stomach than traditional iron salts.

Possible side effects

Stomach-related effects are the most common with Ironic Tablet. They include:

• Dark or black stools
• Constipation
• Nausea
• Stomach discomfort
• Diarrhoea

Accidental swallowing of iron by a child can be very dangerous, so get emergency help straight away if this happens. See a doctor for severe stomach pain or vomiting.

Precautions and warnings

• Have the cause of your anaemia checked by a doctor, as low iron can be a sign of hidden blood loss.
• Tea, coffee, milk and antacids reduce iron absorption, so take it apart from these.
• Iron can reduce the absorption of some antibiotics, such as ciprofloxacin and doxycycline, and of thyroid tablets, so leave a gap between them.
• Do not take it if you have haemochromatosis or another iron overload condition, or anaemia not caused by iron deficiency, such as thalassaemia, unless your doctor advises it.
• Keep all iron products out of the sight and reach of children.

Storage

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it in the original pack until use. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
