Sertazol 2 % Cream, made by Hudson Pharma, is an imidazole antifungal cream. Its active ingredient is Sertaconazole 2%, and it is used for fungal skin infections, athlete's foot, ringworm, jock itch and skin candidiasis. Pack size: 10 gm cream.

Uses of Sertazol 2 % Cream

Sertazol 2 % Cream is used to treat fungal infections of the skin, including athlete’s foot (tinea pedis), ringworm of the body, jock itch in the groin, candidal skin infections and pityriasis versicolor. It helps clear the infection and relieves itching, burning, scaling and redness. Symptoms often improve quickly, but treatment should continue for the advised time.

How Sertazol 2 % Cream works

Sertaconazole blocks fungi from making ergosterol, a key part of their cell membrane, so the membrane becomes leaky and the fungus stops growing. At higher concentrations it directly damages fungal cells. It also has some activity against certain bacteria and a mild anti-itch effect.

Possible side effects

Sertazol 2 % Cream is usually well tolerated. Occasional skin reactions at the application site include:

• Redness
• Burning or stinging
• Itching
• Dry or peeling skin

Stop using it and seek advice if you develop blistering, swelling or a spreading rash, which may suggest an allergic reaction.

Precautions and warnings

• It is for external use only; avoid the eyes and mouth.
• Continue using it for the full time recommended, even once the skin looks clear, to prevent the infection returning.
• Keep the affected skin clean and dry, and do not share towels, socks or shoes.
