Macrobac Syrup

Macrobac Syrup is a syrup made by Asian Continental that contains Azithromycin, a macrolide antibiotic. It is used for throat and tonsil infections, chest infections, pneumonia, sinusitis, ear infections, typhoid fever, skin infections and some sexually transmitted infections. Uses of Macrobac Syrup

Macrobac Syrup is used for bacterial infections of the throat, tonsils, sinuses, ears and chest, including bronchitis and community-acquired pneumonia. It is also used for skin infections, some sexually transmitted infections such as chlamydia, and in Pakistan it is often prescribed for typhoid fever. Its short course, often three to five days, makes it convenient.

How Macrobac Syrup works

Azithromycin stops bacteria from making the proteins they need to grow and multiply. It builds up in body tissues and stays there for several days, which is why a short course keeps working after the last dose.

Possible side effects

Common side effects of Macrobac Syrup include:

• Diarrhoea or loose stools
• Nausea or vomiting
• Stomach pain
• Headache

Get medical help straight away if you notice a fast or irregular heartbeat, fainting, yellowing of the skin or eyes, a severe rash, or swelling of the face or throat.

Precautions and warnings

• Tell your doctor if you have heart rhythm problems, low potassium or magnesium, or liver disease.
• Let your doctor know about other medicines you take, as some interact with azithromycin.
• Keep a gap between Macrobac Syrup and antacids containing aluminium or magnesium.
• Complete the full course exactly as prescribed.
• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, use it only on your doctor’s advice.

Storage

Store below 30°C, away from direct sunlight. Keep the bottle tightly closed and do not use it after the expiry date or the period stated on the label once opened. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
