Uses of Gopten 0.5mg Capsule

Gopten 0.5mg Capsule is used to treat high blood pressure, helping reduce the long-term risk of stroke, heart attack and kidney damage. It is also given to people who have had a heart attack and whose heart pumps less strongly afterwards, where it helps protect the heart, lowers the risk of heart failure and improves survival.

How Gopten 0.5mg Capsule works

Trandolapril blocks angiotensin-converting enzyme, which the body uses to make angiotensin II, a hormone that tightens blood vessels and causes salt and water retention. With less angiotensin II, blood vessels relax and widen, blood pressure falls and the heart does not have to work as hard.

Possible side effects

Gopten 0.5mg Capsule suits most people well, though a few side effects are fairly common. These include:

• Dry, tickly cough
• Dizziness
• Headache
• Tiredness
• Nausea

Get emergency help for swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat or difficulty breathing. See a doctor promptly for yellow skin, severe stomach pain, or passing much less urine than usual.

Precautions and warnings

• Take it regularly, even when you feel well.
• Get up slowly, as it can cause dizziness, especially at first.
• Your doctor may check kidney function and potassium; avoid potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium unless advised.
• Tell your doctor if you take water tablets, anti-inflammatory painkillers, lithium or other blood pressure medicines, or if you have ever had angioedema.
• It must not be used during pregnancy, so tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy.

Storage
