Sitagliptin + Metformin: Uses, Side Effects & Brands in Pakistan
Sitagliptin with metformin combines two type 2 diabetes medicines in one tablet. It is prescribed in Pakistan, under brands such as Janumet and many local brands, when metformin alone does not control blood sugar.
How Sitagliptin + Metformin works
Sitagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor that helps the body release more insulin after meals. Metformin reduces the sugar the liver releases. Together they lower blood sugar with a low risk of hypoglycaemia.
What is Sitagliptin + Metformin used for?
- Type 2 diabetes not controlled by metformin alone
- Replacing separate sitagliptin and metformin tablets with one tablet
- With other medicines such as insulin or a sulfonylurea when needed

Get urgent help for severe stomach pain spreading to the back (a sign of pancreatitis), or for severe weakness, muscle pain and difficulty breathing (rare lactic acidosis from metformin). Also report severe joint pain or blistering skin.
